Located in the central region of Western Louisiana, sharing a border with Newton County, Texas, Vernon Parish has a population of nearly 54,000 citizens and its parish seat is located in the city of Leesville. The parish was founded in 1871 and is named for Mount Vernon, the historic home of our nation’s first president, George Washington. Vernon Parish was formed from parts of present day Sabine Parish, Rapides Parish, and Natchitoches Parish, all of which surround current day Vernon Parish.
