New Roads
Presently serving as the seat of Pointe Coupee Parish, the city of New Roads is home to nearly 5,000 residents and was founded in 1822 by Catherine Dispau. Originally settled by native French, as well as French Creoles born in the colony, the city’s namesake is derived from the “new road” built between the Mississippi River and the False River in the 1770’s. Additional ethnic French settlers migrated from Fort de Chartres, Illinois to settle and claim the area that is now known as New Roads. The city is perhaps best known for their long-running celebration of Mardi Gras, beginning in 1881, second-earliest in time only to New Orleans. Home to False River, New Roads hosts the annual “Harvest Festival on False River” in the middle of October each year. Locals and tourists alike flock to this festival for a celebration of both the fall harvest season and local cuisine and culture.
Motor vehicle accidents have simply become too much of a common occurrence in today’s society, leading to thousands of tragic injuries and deaths to motorists and pedestrians every year. Louisiana saw nearly 72,000 people injured and 722 killed in vehicular crashes alone in 2012. In Pointe Coupee Parish, over 300 people suffered injuries as a direct result of vehicular accidents. Causes of these vehicular collisions can range from a distracted driver using his cell phone to a driver recklessly getting behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The circumstances of these accidents are not always crystal-clear, which often leads to difficulty determining who is liable for damages resulting from the accident. If you or a loved one is injured as a result of a motor vehicle crash, it is important to immediately contact a personal injury attorney who can assess your situation and help protect your rights.
