Madison Parish

Located in the northeastern region of Louisiana and sharing its borders with Mississippi, Madison Parish was founded in 1838 and is named after former President James Madison. The parish has a population of roughly 12,000 residents and the parish seat is located in Tallulah. Madison Parish is rich in agriculture and is responsible for producing cotton, corn, and rice, along with much of the crawfish that makes its way through Louisiana every year. The parish also houses part of the Tensas River National Wildlife Refuge, a 65,000-acre habitat for many endangered species including the threatened Louisiana black bear. Madison Parish is also home to the Vicksburg National Military Park, which preserves the site of the famed Battle of Vicksburg from the American Civil War. Madison Parish is neighbors with East Carroll Parish to the north and Tensas Parish to the south.
