The city of Cameron, which serves as the parish seat of Cameron Parish, is a resilient city recovering from the devastation of many hurricanes through the course of its history. In 1957, Cameron was nearly destroyed by Hurricane Audrey and again in 2005 when Hurricane Rita struck. Hurricane Ike in 2008 also caused significant damage to Cameron with a 22-foot storm surge.
