Plaquemines Parish is located on the southeastern tip of Louisiana, extending deeply into the Gulf of Mexico. The parish has a population of over 23,000 residents and its parish seat is located in Pointe à la Hache. Founded in 1807, the parish is named after the Louisiana-French word for a “persimmon,” an edible berry, for the abundance of persimmon trees in the area when discovered by French Settlers. The parish is also home to three U.S. National Historic Landmarks: Fort De La Boulaye Site, also known as the “Mississippi Site;” Fort St. Phillip, which was used as for military protection in the War of 1812; and Fort Jackson, which was built by General Andrew Jackson and used to defend New Orleans in the early 1800’s. In addition to these historic landmarks, Plaquemines Parish also houses the Delta National Wildlife Refuge, a 49,000 acre refuge located 100 miles south of New Orleans that provides a safe habitat to a large variety of waterfowl.
In 2013, 668 people were killed in motor vehicle accidents and nearly 69,000 more suffered injuries in Louisiana. Car accidents can sometimes be unavoidable situations and they often lead to catastrophic or even fatal injuries that devastate victims and their families. Causes for vehicular accidents could range from a driver simply not paying attention to a driver recklessly driving while intoxicated. Anyone injured in a motor vehicle crash should immediately consult a talented personal injury attorney to discuss and protect their rights.
