Named after French explorer Robert De La Salle, La Salle Parish was founded in 1908 and has a population of nearly 15,000 residents. The parish was created from the Western side of Catahoula Parish. Many present-day residents of the parish are engaged in agriculture, growing cotton, corn, and sugarcane (among others). La Salle Parish has the distinction of being the first parish in Louisiana’s history to ever appoint a female mayor, which occurred in the city of Jena in 1920 when Lula V. Coleman was appointed. The parish is also home to part of the Catahoula National Wildlife Refuge. La Salle Parish is neighbors with Catahoula Parish to the east and Grant Parish to the west.
Almost 69,000 people were injured in motor vehicle accidents in Louisiana and an additional 668 were killed due to these collisions in 2013 alone. With millions of motorists living and passing through Louisiana each year, these accidents are a common occurrence and can oftentimes lead to devastating injuries that can be catastrophic to a victim and his family. The causes of these vehicular crashes can occur in a variety of ways; for example, a drunk driver’s complete inability to operate a vehicle could lead to tragedy. If you or a loved one is ever involved in a motor vehicle collision, you must immediately contact an educated personal injury attorney where you can learn about and protect your rights.
